Apple butter is great on ham because it locks in the moisture and adds wonderful flavor. Pick up a jar of our delicious all natural apple butter–no coloring, preservatives, or chemical additives–when you get your ham. We also have the local honey you’ll need.
Ingredients
1 (10-pound) ham
1 carrot, chopped
1 celery stalk, chopped
1 leek, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic head, halved
1 cup apple butter
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
4 cups water
Directions
For the ham: Put the ham, carrot, celery, leek, onion, and garlic in a large stockpot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 2 hours. Drain and place into a roasting pan.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a bowl, combine the apple butter, honey, and Dijon mustard. Peel off the skin of the ham and brush it with apple butter mixture. Pour the water in the bottom of the pan. Place in the oven and cook for 1 1/2 hours, making sure to baste it with the sauce every 15 minutes during cooking process. Remove the ham from the pan and let sit for 10 minutes before carving.

For a no fuss version, Jessica just pours the apple butter on top of our wonderfully seasoned ham and cooks as above. Comes out great every time. For those that like a less salty ham, we recommend defrosting in water to remove the natural salts we use to preserve your ham instead of the chemical nitrites and nitrates.
