When raised on a farm, whether you go on to a white-collar career in the city or to play football for the Indianapolis Colts, life often has a funny way of getting you back to the farm.
Hunter Smith grew up on a cattle ranch, raising cattle on thousands of acres of pasture to be sold off at the sale barn. The margins were small, but he retained fond memories of the agricultural lifestyle. After college, he played football for nine years with the Indianapolis Colts and a year with the Washington Redskins before ending his NFL career and shifting his focus to what would be best for his family. Recalling the impact working on his family’s ranch had on him growing up, he started WonderTree Farm to ensure his children had a strong connection to the land and their food.
In between playing football and starting a farm he also managed to start the Hunter Smith Band and release a couple albums. Hunter Smith has been generous enough to play music for This Little Piggy goes to Market at This Old Farm on Saturday May 19th. Tickets are $60, and include live music courtesy of Hunter Smith, a four course meal provided by local farmers and artisans, a cash bar, and more!
