This Old Farm is proud to work with youth and the community to spread the word about sustainable agriculture. This week we have two educational opportunities on the food system. The first is a Home Economics Club that will meet at 2 pm on Monday to learn about supporting local agriculture. Then on this Wednesday, May 23rd, a class from a Lafayette Charter School will be out at the processing facility and farm for an all day educational work shop on permaculture. We still have some room for others to join us. If you have been wanting to make it out to the farm for a tour here is your opportunity. We will meet at 9 am at the processing facility. Here we will cover our food system as a hole as well as the concepts of permaculture.
Permaculture is a creative and artful way of designing our lives, where waste become resources, productivity and yields increase, work is minimized, people and nature are preserved- all by thoughtful planning and a respectful approach to life. Thus embraced, we create an environment where all may thrive for untold generations. Excerpt taken from Bill Henderson’s website www.midwestpermaculture.com
We will take what we learn in the first hour of the workshop outside to implement our teachings on the acre of ground that surround This Old Farm Meats and Processing outside of Colfax, IN. We will work until 3:30 pm taking a break for lunch when we will tour the farm and have a picnic along Sugar Creek at the rear of the diversified livestock farm operated by This Old Farm.
