Next week is National Butcher’s Week in the UK and although there is not currently a national campaign recognizing America’s butchers like in England, according to ButcherShops.org there should be. “National Butcher’s Week helps butchers to raise the profile of their trade among consumers and promotes butchers as the ideal place for customers to purchase their meats. We eventually will be exploring the expansion of the program to the US and Canadian Markets. Either National Butcher’s Day or Week should be a national campaign recognizing America’s butchers.”
“Butchers: an ancient trade, whose duties may date back to the domestication of livestock, butchers formed guilds in England as far back as 1272.” (butchershops.org).
We are very proud of the work that our butchers do here at This Old Farm and next week we will begin highlighting three of our Master Butchers, who are master craftsmen bringing back a lost art. Remember the local butcher shop where families went for their meat choices, before there was mass produced cheap meat at the supermarket? Our Master Butchers know how to cut all kinds of beef, pork, lamb, and poultry, and know our meat processing operation from start to finish.
