A Few Weeks Left to Get Involved in our Educational CSA

Here at the farm, I am enjoying the feeling of spring time.  It is the time when the body is awakened and reality sets in.  Work is hard when I have sat for the majority of the winter.  Yet, the feeling of sore muscles is offset by the beauty that surrounds and the accomplishment of knowing a season of healthful food is on its way.

There are just a few weeks to get in on the full season educational CSA, with or with out the education.  We are fast at work planting and preparing.  To date we have planted lettuce, mesclun mix, spinach, kale, beets, onions, potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, chinese cabbage,  dill, and cilantro.  These are all cool season crops.  The strawberry planting looks excellent.  6 types of fruit trees have bloomed without frost damage; peach, asian pear, cherry, apricot, apple, and plum.  It looks to be a great start to a bountiful year.  Below I have copied information on CSA logistics.  Please visit our calendar for keeping up to date as we schedule the classes for the year.  If you have any questions, please call (765) 324-2161.  Don’t forget that we now accept credit cards for ease in payment.

Educational CSA (20 weeks-May 28 to Oct 15) This Old Farm is launching a workshop series to be held Saturday afternoons, from 2 PM to 3:30PM at the farm or other location upon notification.  We will share information about different aspects of farm life from organic gardening to raising chickens to preserving the harvest.  Whether you are new to growing your own food or a seasoned veteran, there will be something for everyone.  They make a great addition to your home school curriculum.   This is intended to be a hands on CSA.  As a CSA share owner you will be registered in each of the available workshops.  As is standard with a CSA, you will receive a share of the harvest each week representing a basketful of produce intended to fulfill the needs of a family of four.  Each Educational CSA is $550 payable in two installments.  A half share (pick up every other week) is $300 dollars.  Though we encourage you to take part in the education part of the CSA we will provide CSA baskets for the same price without the educational opportunity if you are tight for time.  Please call for payment details or a sample of what was provided last year.

We look forward to growing with you!
